To find out, we made 80km/h, a filmed drive across Singapore, along the Pan Island Expressway, in one take, travelling at a constant 80km/h
A filming manifesto for 80km/h
I traverse the country in one continuous take. I begin recording at an eastern point (the control tower of Changi Airport) and stop at a western point (Tuas Checkpoint). In one take, without a single cut, I document every inch of the island from one edge to the other.
I maintain a consistent speed of 80 km/h so the document retains cartographic value. If the same route along the Pan Island Expressway were recorded every year, Singapore’s topographical changes could be mapped by comparing recordings over time. It is my intention to film this journey regularly.
This cross-country document lasts a mere 38 minutes. Its duration is its message.
